Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The DC Promise Neighborhood Initiative (DCPNI) seeks an Executive Director to provide the strategic leadership necessary to ensure that DCPNI is capable of delivering on its long-term vision of the children of Kenilworth-Parkside attending and graduating from excellent schools, obtaining the education necessary to have productive careers, and having the additional supports they need so they may thrive and one day give these same opportunities to their own children. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the organization and will ensure that the fiscal, operations, evaluation and fundraising strategies are effectively implemented across the organization.
This is a unique opportunity for a strategic leader to make a deep and lasting impact on the Kenilworth/Parkside community with support from a diverse and engaged Board of Directors, staff, community and local partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Executive Director’s responsibilities include:
Strategic Leadership & Vision
· Provide strategic thought leadership for DCPNI, including maintaining a strategic plan that defines the organization’s strategic and operational goals, key performance metrics, and funding plans.
Partnership Development & Fundraising
· Advocate and generate visibility and support for the mission, vision and goals of DCPNI and the Kenilworth/Parkside community.
· Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with a diverse group of key stakeholders, local and national funders, partners, and community liaisons.
· Drive DCPNI’s overall fundraising strategy by developing and executing strategies that ensure a sustainable and diverse funding stream and effectively leverage the expertise and contacts of the Board.
Strengthening Infrastructure & Operations
· Provide leadership and oversight to the organizational management, programs, and operations of DCPNI.
Work closely with senior staff to ensure continuous improvement and quality assurance across the organization.
· Work with senior staff to develop the organization’s infrastructure, systems, and processes.
· Oversee staff and develop culture of performance, accountability, and excellence.
· Provide strategic oversight of DCPNI’s annual budget and oversee the preparation of all financial reporting to the Board.
Board Engagement
Collaborate with the Board to ensure execution of organizational strategy.
Develop and present to the Board strategic and operational plans with measurable goals.
Work closely with the Board of Directors to leverage the skills and influence of the Board to assist in Board development and fundraising efforts.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The Executive Director will be thoroughly committed to DCPNI’s vision and goals. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
At least 10 years of leadership experience in a public, non-profit, philanthropic, or business organization
· Superb interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to speak in public forums to diverse audiences, and communicate effectively with stakeholders, staff and colleagues
· Successful track record of engaging, collaborating, and building relationships with the local community to achieve meaningful results
· Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage and develop high-performing teams, create a positive working environment, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
· Demonstrated experience balancing strategic thinking and decision-making with program execution
· Proven ability to build and maintain a collaborative, working relationships with funders and diverse stakeholder group
· Experience working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
· Experience evaluating, tracking and producing results for children and families in communities with demographics similar to those of Parkside/Kenilworth preferred; strong comfort with data analysis and utilization
· Must be self directed and have the ability to prioritize competing priorities
· Must have a positive attitude

DCPNI is one of 57 Promise Neighborhoods across the United States selected by the Department of Education to develop a cradle to career pipeline for children that ensures that they obtain a quality education, graduate from college or a vocational school, and grow up to have successful careers and communities.
