This salaried full time position reports to the President and CEO, and works closely with various other staff members on Communications-related issues. Close collaboration is expected especially with the Director of Member Services and the Vice President for Membership & Corporate Relations. The Director of Communications & Marketing is the primary caretaker of the external brand of ARA, with responsibility for the association’s communications to the public and its membership.

Primary Duties
Communications & Marketing
Publications: annual report, RetailerFact$ (biweekly), Ag Professional (monthly), press releases, member alerts, etc.
Web site: content, design, functionality, maintenance, replying to “Contact Us” requests, and manage advertising placement in ARA publications and web site
Social Media: Twitter and Linked In
ARA’s “Proud Member” logo administration
Article, presentation and stationery templates/design
Design of Membership marketing materials
Assist with ARAPAC and other ARA communications
Staff Coordinator for the Communications Committee
Lead ARA strategic initiative for Agricultural Image Enhancement
Manage ARA’s Retailer of the Year program
Environmental Respect Award selection committee
Liaison to USFRA and other groups
Spokesperson training and message development
State Association liaison
Go-to contact for state executives on ARA staff
Strategy to strengthen relationships
Liaison to Out of Focus state executives meeting
Staff lead for Media Relations
Lead contact and gatekeeper for reporters
Liaison to ag media organizations (NAFB, etc.)
Annual Conference
General Session manager (A/V, speaker preparation & travel, etc.)
Promotional materials (theme/graphic design, registration materials, program book, publicity, signage, event tickets, auction catalogue, etc.)
Media contact for interview scheduling with speakers and ARA leaders
Other/Secondary Duties
Website community management, member engagement
Social Media: Facebook
Some domestic travel will be required; possibility of international travel
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Desired Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in communications or related field
Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in agricultural communications or related field
Advanced computer experience with MS Windows and Office
Experience with ExactTarget a bonus
Excellent writing and editing skills
Strong oral communication skills
Excellent organizational and planning skills
Excellent technological/computer skills
Ability to work in a fast paced small-office environment
Agriculture related experience and knowledge is necessary
Ability to complete assigned tasks creatively with minimal supervision, and to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
