Position Overview
At FasterCures, our name is our mission. Our work focuses on improving the medical research system - so that we can speed up the time it takes to get important new medicines from discovery to patients. Among the ways we do this is by engaging a broad range of stakeholders in our work. This requires a comprehensive, cohesive and cogent approach to communications efforts.
The Communications Manager will be working closely with the Communications Director and other members of the communications and program teams to develop and implement communications strategies and tactics needed to crystallize the organization’s messages, engage key opinion leaders, and position the organization’s leadership role.
Responsibilities
This position will manage media relations, develop multimedia tools, and be responsible for proactively integrating communications opportunities into all FasterCures efforts. This position requires strong analytic skills, the ability to quickly and easily translate medical research and philanthropy issues for multi-sector audiences. Day-to-day tasks would include:
Build relationships with media contacts, including traditional print and broadcast media as well as bloggers, and identify ways to deliver FasterCures messages.
Proactively monitor and respond to (when appropriate) media coverage relevant to FasterCures work and areas of interest.
Produce real-time analysis on key developments that impact the medical research ecosystem.
Work closely with FasterCures program staff to enhance work through creative and compelling communications efforts.
Develop creative and actionable communications and marketing strategies to promote FasterCures activities, publications, and initiatives.
Understand full range of FasterCures issue areas and activities to ensure timely and effective integration of communications components into each program activity or project.
Develop position statements, white papers, newsletters, e-blasts and other written materials as needed that effectively communicate FasterCures’ perspectives
Qualifications
Three-five years of experience as a communications professional for a public relations firm, marketing organization, nonprofit or public charity, academic institution, or corporation.
Demonstrated knowledge of the biomedical research landscape, specifically research infrastructure and resources.
Ability to take a communications project from concept to execution independently, and as part of a team.
Strong attention to detail and proven program management skills.
Exceptional oral and written communication and presentation skills. (Proficiency in adobe illustrator and html a plus)
Experience writing briefing documents and developing targeted presentations (ability to share examples is a plus).
Desire to be part of an evolving organization and to contribute to its growth and reputation.
Entrepreneurial self-starter who takes initiative and demonstrates sound judgment.
Ability to be flexible, to maintain a good sense of humor, and to keep a global perspective.
