Chairman: Eliminate WSSU early-voting site Bertrand M. Gutierrez Winston-Salem Journal
WINSTON-SALEM - The Republican chairman of the Forsyth County Board of Elections, citing what he views as voting irregularities, said he will try to eliminate the Anderson Center at the historically black Winston-Salem State University as a site for early voting. Ken Raymond said he would try to shut down the voting site as early as Tuesday at the county election board's public meeting at 6 p.m. in the Forsyth County Government Center, 201 N. Chestnut Street, in downtown Winston-Salem. “I just have to get one more board member to agree with me,” Raymond said. The other Republican board member, Stuart Russell, and the third board member, Fleming El-Amin, a Democrat, could not be reached for comment. The Anderson Center has been used as an early voting site since 2008. The 2014 elections would be the first affected by the proposed elimination of the site. No early-voting dates have been scheduled at the Anderson Center for this year’s municipal elections, according to Rob Coffman, the director of the Forsyth elections board.
