The National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA), located at Dupont Circle in Washington, DC, seeks a full-time Director of Legal Resources to provide strategic direction, leadership and oversight of NACUA's legal resources and to ensure high-quality and member-responsive programs and services for attorneys representing NACUA's member colleges and universities.
Primary duties include: strategic oversight as well as daily management of NACUA's development and delivery of legal resources, programming and services that serve member needs; supervision and professional development of legal resources staff that includes three Assistant Directors; close collaboration with NACUA members and member volunteers to identify legal issues and deliver high-quality programs and services; monitoring emerging trends and best practices in higher education law and the delivery of new legal resources to ensure NACUA remains at the forefront; facilitating networking among members on key issues of interest; serving as the primary staff member responsible for development and implementation of the Annual Conference with volunteer members of the Program Committee; initiating and planning selected programs and virtual seminars; and ensuring effective outreach to the larger higher education community so that NACUA serves as the leading resource on higher education legal issues; and serving as a key member of the staff leadership team.
Requirements: Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and current law license in any state; five to ten years of progressively responsible legal experience, preferably in higher education; comprehensive knowledge of legal issues in higher education; excellent oral and written communications skills; program planning and development skills for live and virtual meetings; strong management and supervisory skills and experience; strong interpersonal skills; acute attention to detail; hands-on, strategic, creative thinker who welcomes innovation and thrives in a collaborative environment with both members and staff colleagues; and understanding of a membership-service, volunteer-driven association.
Additional experience preferred: working with/coordinating volunteers, ideally in a professional membership organization; CLE program planning; successfully coordinating and implementing multiple projects and/or programs simultaneously; and familiarity with new technologies/tools.
